New construction of the Federal Ministry for the Environment as a low-energy building
- Architects: Geier Maass Pleuser (Berlin)
- Construction period: 2009-2011
- Execution: 1,500 m² plaster ceiling as combined ceiling heating and ceiling cooling system
- Location: Berlin
The new building adjoins the historic building of the former Prussian Ministry of Agriculture. This listed old building, constructed between 1913 and 1916, will also be used by the Federal Ministry for the Environment after renovation.
The new Berlin office of the Federal Ministry for the Environment is intended to be a model for environmentally friendly construction. The new building was designed in accordance with the standards for low-energy buildings (“passive houses”). As part of sustainable energy management, radiant heating and cooling with capillary tube mats from BEKA was installed. Embedded in the ceiling, the capillary tube mats ensure economical, efficient energy use while maintaining a healthy and comfortable indoor climate.
